Mediation is a non-binding procedure. This means that, even though parties have agreed to submit a dispute to mediation, they are not obliged to continue with the mediation process after the first meeting. In this sense, the parties remain always in control of a mediation. The continuation of the process depends on their continuing acceptance of it.

However, in case the amicable settlement is ratified by a State court or a judge, the agreement is enforceable before the relevant State court.

A selction of experience includes:

• Representing an individual from a Northern European country in a commercial mediation under the Swiss Mediation Rules in a complex and multi-party construction case;
  
  
• Advising an individual from a Southern European country in a mediation case with a general contractor.
  
  
• Acting as administrative secretary to an ad hoc Conciliation Commission seated in North Africa. The case concerned a multibillion oil dispute between a North African State and a foreign consortium in relation to an oil concession in and a newly levied windfall tax;
